Meet the Board Members Advancing The Save A Leg, Save A Life Foundation’s Mission

The Save a Leg, Save a Life Foundation is proud to announce that Cam Ayala and Dr. Laura Swoboda have been elected to the Board of Directors.

Dr. Laura Swoboda and Cam Ayala are two individuals whose dedication and expertise converge in the shared goal of improving health outcomes and advocating for underserved populations.

Dr. Laura Swoboda is a translational scientist, family nurse practitioner, and regenerative medicine specialist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They are a Professor of Nursing at Carthage College, and serve as principal investigator for quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research projects in complex skin & wound care. Dr. Swoboda serves on the board of directors for the WOCNCB and the AAWC, as well as various committees for the NPIAP, Wound Healing Society, WCCC, Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders, SALSAL, and the American Heart Association’s Peripheral Arterial Disease Collaborative. Dr. Swoboda is committed to health equity, and volunteers at the local, regional, national, and international levels to increase access to quality health care.

Similarly, Cam Ayala brings a personal and passionate perspective to advocacy. Cam Ayala was born with a disease called lymphedema which led to multiple episodes of infection, which resulted in an above-knee-amputation in June of 2022. As a result, Cam has been actively volunteering with nonprofits such as Range Of Motion Project (ROMP), Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), Camp No Limits, and Amputee Coalition to advocate for individuals living with limb loss, limb differences, and other mobility challenges. Cam is contracted with the Department of Veterans Affairs in the Central Texas region where he serves as a Product Specialist for multiple companies that provide solutions for our veterans suffering with chronic wounds and chronic pain.

Whenever Cam is not volunteering with these organizations he enjoys attending concerts, serving in prison ministry, and spending as much time as he can with his family and his toy schnauzer, Chaz.

Together, Dr. Swoboda and Cam Ayala embody the resilience and commitment needed to drive meaningful change in healthcare and advocacy, inspiring others to join their mission of improving lives.
